Giant Pumpkin Weigh-off

Each year Hensler Nursery hosts the Indiana Pumpkin Growers Association and their giant pumpkin weigh-off. In this battle of gargantuan gourds, bigger IS better! Each year it is common for competitors to enter pumpkins over 1000 pounds. 2009′s winner, Christy Harp, rocked the competition with a 1236 lb. pumpkin. We’re not sure how much pumpkin pie that translates into, but we’re betting it’s a lot!
The Indiana Pumpkin Growers take a lot of pride in the pumpkins they grow, even if their entry isn’t the biggest. Seed selection is crucial as well as working with the proper soil. These giant pumpkins require constant care and TLC as they grow and mature, and for many growers, this process is a labor of love.
